White Privilege: Ex: When they go shopping they can assume that they will be treated as serious shoppers instead of potential shoplifters or people who cans afford to shop there.

Dear White People
Watch the movie and write a one page reflection, connecting themes and concepts from class to the movie.

Some concepts can be chose below:
Privilege: Exists when one group has something of value that is denied to others simply because of the groups they belong to, rather than because of anything theyve done or failed or failed to do. Ex: males are generally paid more for the same job.

Unearned entitlements or advantages. Includes both social, geographical, and legal categories but also wealth. (e.g. where you live, whats your citizenship status, etc.)

White Privilege: Ex: When they go shopping they can assume that they will be treated as serious shoppers instead of potential shoplifters or people who cans afford to shop there.

color-blind=ignoring systems of disadvantage and privilege, its an emphasis on individualism (you treat people as isolated individuals separate from their identities).

Color consciousness rejects that there are fundamental and biological differences between racial and ethic groups but recognized that there are systems of oppressions that mediate the type of advantages that people can have.

Unearned privilege: that you are granted because you are white or perceive as white.
