Evaluation of the Historical Event
I have a dream speech is one of the key pieces delivered by Martin Luther King, Jr. to the general populace during the era of racial discrimination in the United States. This public speech was presented by this renowned civil rights advocate on 28th August 1963 as a way of suppressing the favoritism promoted in the United States based on one’s racial background. This piece, which was a key event in the development of the American Civil Rights Movement, was presented to more than 250,000 individuals on the Lincoln Memorial steps. I learnt of this historical event through various primary and secondary sources during different academic stages. The fact that the actions of Martin Luther King, Jr. were included in the academic curriculum that I undertook aided me to comprehend the content of this public speech. Since my initial comprehension of this historical event and the embedded aspects, I considered this American civil rights campaigner as a patriot who was willing to reach all heights to attain equality in the American society. He did not need a lot of resources to fulfill his purpose with reference to ending favoritism in the community.
The content of this public speech has had a substantial impact on my life. As I reflect on the words publicized by this American civil rights advocate, I understand that racial discrimination or any other form of favoritism is a negatively influential force whose effects are evident in the social, administrative, commercial, and industrial frameworks of a typical community. From this public speech, I have learnt to look past the societal classifications of an individual including his or her racial background, religious conviction, age bracket, ethnic background, or social status. This has aided me in considering the talents, skills, and arguments of different individuals without focusing on such discriminative attributes. In addition, the sources utilized in this study have aided me in comprehending the intrinsic aspects related to this historical event. Through these sources, I have understood the role of every individual in ending such detrimental cultures as societal discrimination. This is through the established link between the public speech under consideration and the undesirable effects of favoritism in the society.
