The final homework assignment is easy, and should be fun (if it’s not fun, you are doing it wrong). Length: 2-3 pages. Create a musical biography for yourself, describing your memories of different music and how that relates to your personal experience. This could include: music your parents listen to, music of your family’s national origin that you heard growing up, music you heard growing up in church, children’s music you remember from when you were young (such as Elmo), music you played or sang in school, your first CD or MP3 album, what you listened to in grade school, high school, and now. Feel free to include music you are embarrassed that you once liked, or something you heard all the time in your neighborhood. If you’re not a music fan, provide music that you heard in some other context: church, family gatherings, on TV, etc. Your paper should be written chronologically, from your earliest musical experiences to your most recent. With each piece of music, provide a YouTube link. Try to find the same performances your remember, but if this is not possible (if it’s a song you performed in church, or in school, for instance), find an example of a similar performance to the extent possible. You should have 10-15 links (minimum 10; more than 15 is ok). Use the format and rules as described below. FORMAT: 1. Notice that once I copy the links to my page, I select all text, reset the font (my preference is Times New Roman) and font size (12). Please do the same. 2. Make sure to provide artist and song titles above each link. You can copy the title from YouTube, which is what I do for class mailings.
