For this critique, you will read the United Nations Conventions on the Right of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) the link to the convention in its entirety can be found here.

In this critique, consider the following prompts to guide your writing:

1) Compare and contrast how UNCRPD differs from laws governing deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing students (or adults) in the United States.( Ex, IDEA, ADA, ..etc)

2) Consider how UNCRPD frames linguistic rights, signed languages in general, and how languages tie into education. Do you support or oppose this view? Does the United States meet or exceed the parameters of the convention?

3) Discuss patterns you see within countries that have signed the convention vs. countries that have signed and ratified the convention. What trends do you see?

4) What underlying political and cultural beliefs run serpentine through the previous three prompts (above) that encourage or prevent various nations from fully implementing the provisions of UNCRPD?
